VALORANT Esports Evolves: Insights from Studio Head & Esports Lead.
Studio Head and Esports Chief Share Their Decision-Making Framework in Exclusive Interview.
VALORANT has evolved significantly since its 2020 debut, now boasting 27 agents, 17 maps, and availability on both PC and console. As the 2025 VCT season progresses following T1's victory at Masters Bangkok, Riot Games' approach to ecosystem changes has come under scrutiny—particularly after introducing new agent Tejo just one week before competition.
In a revealing interview with Esports Insider, VALORANT's Global Head of Esports Leo Faria and Studio Head Anna Donlon outlined their three-factor decision framework: evaluating if features work as intended, analyzing player behavior patterns, and considering community feedback.
"Feedback is just one component," explained Faria, acknowledging the impossible task of pleasing VALORANT's millions of global players. "Sometimes people say one thing but do another."
Donlon emphasized their commitment to player-centered development: "We truly bring players and their opinions into almost every discussion. When we don't get it right, we'll do our best to fix it."
The leadership team actively combats potential U.S.-centric bias by maintaining close relationships with Rioters worldwide, ensuring decisions benefit VALORANT's diverse global ecosystem.
