Fortnite Coming to iPhones in Brazil After Sideloading Ruling
Fortnite Returns to iPhones in Brazil – But Why Now?
Fortnite will return to iPhones in Brazil after the government forced Apple to allow sideloading. Apple has faced antitrust claims in Brazil since 2022, and regulators recently gave Apple 90 days to adjust its App Store policies. Epic Games announced that Fortnite will be available on iOS devices through the Epic Games Store starting in July.
The European Union already forced Apple to permit sideloading, so similar terms will likely apply in Brazil, including a Core Technology Fee for app installs.
Apple initially lost the case in November 2024, with Brazil’s competition authority (Cade) threatening daily fines of $43,000. An appeals court delayed action in December, but now Apple must comply with new rules, including alternative payment methods.
Epic’s move marks a significant win for developers and gamers in Brazil, as Fortnite will finally return to iOS after being removed in 2020 over a payment dispute with Apple.
